Marco's West Ashley

For the record, I am from Charleston, SC. But I did move away to the Midwest to work for a few years. I was delighted to learn that Marco's Pizza made it to Charleston. One fine afternoon, I decided to order delivery from the store on 3515 Mary Ader Ave, Charleston, SC

I moved to the Midwest for a few years for work. While I was there, I had to get use to accepting that not as many places were serving sweet tea as an option, and hearing the word "pop" instead of "soda". Over time I learned to appreciate the four seasons and being only a few hours away from other really cool Midwest cities. One chain restaurant really stuck with me, Marco's Pizza. I loved it. Where I lived, I had one just down the street and sometimes after work, I would pick up a Pepperoni Pizza. I got the Taco Pizza a few times as well. Marco's Pizza was founded in Oregon, Ohio, in 1978 and has since expanded to over 1,000 stores across the United States and other countries.

After I have been back to Charleston, SC a while I noticed they have arrived here. Unfortunately, my last encounter was not the typical experience I have enjoyed with this chain. I ordered delivery - one large Pepperoni Magnifico and one large White Cheezy. I have to say, this experience was likely an outlier and not a reflection of this store in West Ashley but when the delivery driver arrived, they had me reach into the delivery bag to remove the pizzas versus pulling them out themselves and handing over to me. I thought this odd. When I reached in, the pizza box was moist. It was so moist I will say it was wet.

After I put the boxes on my counter and opened them, I noticed the toppings were all to one side and it looked like the pizzas were dropped on that side. I did the best that I could to redistribute but we ended up having finger foods and leftovers for our guests instead of serving lopsided pizzas. I did not call the store to get another delivery, our guests (family) were only going to be there a little while longer and the call, plus them baking, plus delivery would have eaten up all of our quality time so the next day I sent in a complaint. The GM did email me and offer me a credit but said I had to call them. I am a busy person so I was not able to take advantage of that offer. It was a matter of QA/QC. I felt they needed to know how it arrived. The issue was the presentation, plus my arm was wet from whatever substance that was. Not to mention my counters had gotten wet as well. I think it was water or oil. It was a slippery substance. No big deal, really. But to give an accurate account of that experience, I have to mention it all. We have not ordered since then but I intend to. I do realize there are outlier situations. If I have a bad experience at Walmart from a disgruntled cashier, that is not going to stop me from going to Walmart.

Overall, we give Marco's a 2.5 out of 5 rating for this experience. Please see our FAQ page to understand rating system.
