The best thing about Charleston, SC is that it is definitely a foodie destination and we are foodies. We have a lot of home grown talent here but we also attract talent from elsewhere. After some errands this past Saturday, 9/27/2025 at Tanger Outlet, we decided to have a BBQ lunch. We needed something convenient, but craved something good. Our busy lifestyles make it necessary to sometimes grab something from a chain vs a mom and pop, which we typically prefer.
This past Saturday, we went to Jim 'N Nick's for the first time. We mention on our home page that we do not use AI, we save our receipts, take pictures, and rate the places we visit based on value, cleanliness, customer service, etc. We also take note of any specials that might be running or any novel notables a reader might enjoy. The following describes our experience at Jim 'N Nick's.
Jim 'N Nick's is a restaurant chain that started in Birmingham, Alabama. No wonder the food seemed relatable coming from another southern town. As we entered the establishment, two friendly staff members greeted us and were able to seat us right away. In less than one minute a server came by and scribbled down our drink orders and left us to make them. A moment later cheesy muffins arrived at our table. They were not only good, they were addicting. I wanted to buy a bag of them.
While we were enjoying our bread, the server came by and dropped off the drinks, took our order and what came next was a pleasant surprise. My fiancée ordered the pulled pork with baked beans and mac and cheese, with their house BBQ sauce. The baked beans and mac were standard issue, but enjoyable. I ordered the Carolina Pork Plate with Mustard based BBQ sauce (pictured above), with Cole slaw and collard greens. The Cole slaw was very tasty and unique. The collard greens were standard. We sampled each others' plates and it seemed we both were happy with what we ordered. The meats were cooked to a pleasant tenderness and the accompanying sauces were quite tasty. From a value standpoint, each meal was only $14.99 and it came with two sides, not to mention the complimentary muffins. For the portion size and pleasant experience, we would definitely come back here again for a quick lunch. The servers were kind, the food was delivered by a managerial staff person. They seemed genuinely thankful for our business and that goes a long way. They did get us on the drinks though. We each got a soda and they were $3.29 each! They charge it because we are soda addicts and will pay whatever the cost. This is not unique to Jim 'N Nick's. Everywhere you go, if you want a soda, it will cost nearly the same as a cocktail. From our perspective, we would definitely recommend Jim 'N Nick's for a quick bite of some good BBQ but would look elsewhere for date night.
Total bill with tax - $40.58. We tipped $11.42. This $52 lunch exceeded expectations of chain BBQ.
Overall, we give Jim 'N Nick's a 3.75 out of 5 rating. Please see our FAQ page to understand rating system.
